This tutorial set is for the Alesis Fusion Workstation and gives an in-depth explanation of all of the features, menus, and controls that will bring you to a professional level. You will instantly have the knowledge to edit programs and produce your own music in a concise list of videos that total over 2 hours!

Sequencing



1. Sequencing Introduction
This is a very comprehensive video that gives an overview of both concepts and menus involved for understanding how to create a song with the Alesis Fusion music workstation.

2. Adding Tracks
Learn how to add tracks to a sequence in song mode. This video also covers options for selecting what type of track will be added, including both synth and audio.

3. Realtime Record
Begin to understand the steps and procedures for performing a realtime record operation using the Alesis Fusion.

4. Quantizing Track Data
Dive into advanced track processes by walking through the steps of selecting tracks, track locations, then initiating and executing commands to correct note timing of previously recorded performances.

5. Looping Songs and Independent Tracks
In this video Paul explains the steps to set up portions of both a song and tracks to loop. This is very helpful when first sketching a song to build up a groove. You'll also use this to record drum portions in multiple passes of a selected area.

6. Processing Additional Track Edits
Paul explains some other common track edits such as cut, copy, and paste, used for arranging notes and sections of measures in a song.

7. Insert Effects Parameters
In this tutorial you'll learn how to add and adjust insert effects that can be routed from any of the given tracks in a song. This will add dimension and characteristics to your sounds used in a song.

Learn how to use the Fusion's Bus effects (sometimes referred to as system or master effects) to add spatial effects that every track can use in a song set up.

Take advantage of the Fusion's parameter adjustments which allow you to tweak a used program independently from it's settings in program mode. This is very useful for tailoring a sound to fit your particular songs needs, without changing the actual program's sound as it is stored in program mode.

Sound Editing



1. Introduction and Navigation
In this tutorial Paul gives a concise and informative overview of how Mixes and Programs relate. You'll also learn how to navigate to different sounds and use the categories interface.

2. Front Panel Edits
Learn the basic edits that can be made in Program mode for adjusting sound characteristics and parameters from the front panel of the Alesis Fusion workstation.

3. Program Global Edits
This lesson explains the features and controls that are available on the first page of the program edits. These are features such as category, naming, and play type settings that effect the entire Program.

4. Program Synth Edits
Dig deep into the synth edit pages. These menus explore the many parameters for adjusting oscillators specific settings for various synth types. In this particular video you'll learn how to adjust filters, pitch, and various other settings, including envelope settings. These control how your sounds change overtime which is useful for adjusting sweeps, decays, volume attacks, etc.

5. Program Utility Commands
The Fusion has a very easy to understand interface for performing program operations through the utilities menu. In this video Paul explains those options in detail.

6. Mix Mode Introduction
In this video Paul gives an overview that covers how mix's relate to programs, and also covers what type of adjustments can be made in this particular and useful mode. Mix mode is where you'll set up splits, layers, and performances that can have up to 4 simultaneous arpeggios running at the same time.

7. Mix Mode Part Edits
In this tutorial you'll learn how to perform part edits. These parts are very similar to tracks in song mode, where you'll add and assign parts, then adjust playback preferences, key ranges, etc, to customize a mix for its use.

8. Arpeggio Settings in Mix Mode
Apply custom settings to your arpeggio set ups in mix mode. These can be assigned to play back drum patterns, bass lines, and leads for a mix.

9. Mix Utilities
You'll learn the many Mix mode utility operations available in mix mode for turning your mix into a song, initializing a mix, etc.

 

Sampling



1. Sampling Introduction
In this tutorial Paul gives a concise and informative overview of what samples are and how they are used in other modes in the Fusion. You'll also get a better understanding of how samples work in everyday music production. These are concepts that make understanding the modes and procedures necessary for using sampling in your music production.

2. Recording Samples
Learn the procedures for recording samples in the Alesis Fusion. You'll walk through step by step how to set up an instrument to be recorded via the rear panel, also covering the record modes and settings one by one. Next you'll be guided through the operations for setting up extra multisamples, assigning zone parameters, level adjustments, sample edits and more.

3. Loop and Playback Parameters
Learn the loop and play back parameter options available for samples recorded.

4. Sample Utilities Commands
Discover the sampling utility commands available for samples. You can learn how to automatically convert a multisample into a program, create new samples from scratch, and name and store samples for later use.
